The Heart Behind Compass Cove Collective
Compass Cove Collective is a homeschool community in Fort Washington, Maryland focused on connection, creativity, and collaborative learning.
The Collective grew out of a deeply personal journey.
After the pandemic, when schools reopened, my family faced a difficult decision. Our son was not ready to return to a traditional school setting, and due to my health, returning to the classroom was not an option for me either. Homeschooling became our path forward.
While I initially stepped into homeschooling with uncertainty, I leaned on my background in education, my ability to find meaningful learning resources, and most importantly, my understanding of our child. Over time, homeschooling became more than just an alternative — it became a space where our son thrived.
How the Community Began
During our fourth year of homeschooling, I began noticing something many families experience — while our son loved learning at home, he wanted more opportunities to build friendships and connect socially.
After researching existing co-ops and programs, I realized that many wonderful options existed, but they didn’t quite match what our family needed. With encouragement and collaboration from a close friend, we created Kreative S.O.C.I.A.L., a co-op built around connection, creativity, and inclusive community experiences.
With our move into a new home, I was able to begin turning that long-held dream into reality — creating a welcoming space where families could gather, learn, and grow together…The Cove.
Our Ongoing Vision
Compass Cove Collective continues to grow alongside the families we serve. What began as a way to support our child has grown into a space where many children and families can find community, encouragement, and joyful learning experiences.
Our monthly homeschool meetups bring families from across the DMV area together for connection, creativity, and fun.
We are honored to walk alongside families on their learning journeys and look forward to continuing to build something special together.

Hello! I’m Ryan, founder of Compass Cove Collective.
As a former public school educator and now a homeschool parent, I have experienced learning from both sides. I’ve seen how children flourish when they feel supported, encouraged, and free to learn in ways that match who they are.
Even before homeschooling, I carried a quiet dream of creating a learning and recreation space where children could build friendships, explore creativity, and feel a sense of belonging. That dream stayed in the background for years until life — and homeschooling — brought it back to the surface.
